About me

Hi, I'm Kate, a student midwife based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. I'm a mum of one strong-willed preschooler and a rapidly growing baby, and I recently took up cross stitch (in a feminist, modern kind of way). Having worked in the Youth Work sector for more than 15 years I have always been passionate about empowering and upskilling young people to make informed decisions in their lives. Then I turned 30 and became a mum, and realised that I am really, really passionate about upskilling and empowering women to make informed decisions about their births.
In addition to my midwifery studies I am a fully trained doula, having studied with the wonderful Rhea Dempsey. I'm passionate about supporting birthing women and their partners within a hospital environment, because I believe:

Every woman should have a knowledgeable, supportive team by her side during a hospital birth.
Every woman should have access to some continuity of care during their pregnancy and birth. While the hospital system can't always provide this, a student midwife can.
Every woman should have the support to achieve the birth she aspires to (be it intervention-free or medically managed) in a hospital setting.
